The 52nd NAACP Image Awards took place on Saturday, March 27th, honoring outstanding achievements in film, television, music, and literature by people of color. Due to the ongoing the ceremony was held virtually, with winners accepting their awards remotely.
Viola Davis was one of the big winners of the night, taking home the award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in “How to Get Away with Murder.” Davis, who has won numerous awards throughout her career, gave an emotional acceptance speech, thanking her fans and supporters.
Trevor Noah was also recognized, winning the award for Outstanding Host in a Talk or News/Information Series for his work on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.” The South African comedian and television host has been praised for his sharp political commentary and ability to make audiences laugh while addressing serious issues.Other winners included Michael B. Jordan, who won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in “Just Mercy,” and Regina King, who won the award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “One Night in Miami.”
In addition to the entertainment categories, the NAACP Image Awards also recognized outstanding achievements in literature, with awards for Outstanding Literary Work in categories including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Winners in these categories included Isabel Wilkerson for her book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” and Ibram X. Kendi for his book “Antiracist Baby.” The NAACP Image Awards have been held annually since 1967, with the aim of celebrating and recognizing excellence in the black community. Over the years, the awards have recognized a diverse range of artists and cultural leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr., Sidney Poitier, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyoncé.
